Ferrari, The Horse That Never Dies

The Italian firm has earned its status as a brand that combines luxury and sportsmanship in equal measure; And not only that, because saying Ferrari is not just talking about a high-performance car, but one that also combines them with tradition, passion and sensations.
Ferrari, the horse that never dies

Founded by Enzo Ferrari in 1929, the quintessential Italian brand began dedicating itself to racing cars in the city of Maranello, but it was not until 1947 that the manufacture of luxury sports cars began, and they have not done badly.

Financing Scuderia Ferrari was the only reason Enzo decided to sell sports cars, but little by little they gained a good name and their sales grew like wildfire.

Design is as important as sportiness and that in Italy they know very well. For this reason, Ferrari has worked with different design firms, such as Pinifarina, Bertone, Scaglietti or Vignale. Always with red as the most representative color of the brand.

Currently, Ferrari has four models in its ranks: 488 GTB, F12, California (the most economical) and GTC4Lusso. To these must be added several special editions.

There are several firms that compete directly with Ferrari. The most passionate duels in history have been with the German brand Porsche, two brands with a completely different philosophy but which, each in its own way, have managed to capture the dreams of all of us who love the automotive world.

Obviously, we cannot forget others such as Aston Martin, Bugatti, Lamborghini or Maserati, which have never made it easy for the horse brand.

Only one model was needed to take Ferrari to take much of the attention at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It is the new Ferrari Portofino, a grand tourer with no less than 600 HP of power.

This aims to replace the Ferrari California T, the most economical model from the Maranello firm. At 4.59 meters in length, we find a hardtop convertible that feels as good to be with the hood as without it. It is 19 centimeters shorter than the model it replaces, which gives it a more compact and sporty line.

With the chassis made of aluminum, the Italian brand has worked to improve the weight distribution between the two axles. They wanted to give the new Portofino a little more sportiness, something criticized by some in the California T model, which they called ‘too easy’ to drive to be a Ferrari.

Under the hood, we find the 3.9-liter V8 biturbo that the California already used, but with improvements in different components to deliver 40 hp more than before, to reach a total of 600 hp. With it he manages to reach 320 km / h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.5 seconds. It will always be associated with a 7-speed automatic box.

In addition, a new red color has been added that they have called Portofino Red, slightly darker than the usual Ferrari red and that suits the newcomer very well.

Also among the newcomers is the Ferrari GTC4Lusso. Created to replace the FF, it is a 4.92 meter long grand tourer. In addition to being the largest in the ranks of the Italian brand, it is also the only one that has four real seats and a trunk of no less than 450 liters of capacity, something unprecedented in a vehicle of these characteristics.

Not for this reason it loses an iota of sportiness, proof of this is that it mounts a 6.2-liter V12  -associated with an automatic transmission- of no less than 690 CV of power, with which it accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 3, 4 seconds. And that its weight is close to two tons.

€ 300,726 separate you from him. If it seems excessive, you can also configure it with the block of 3.9 liters V8 of 611 CV, and only’ will cost you € 260,073. GTC4Lusso’s direct rivals are the Porsche Panamera, Aston Martin Rapide or the Bentley Continental GT.

The sale of supercars is in a very good moment and Ferrari does not want to be left behind, since the current competition is very strong and there are more and more macas that have maximum performance vehicles in their ranks.

This legendary brand, always with red as its flag, will continue to bring smiles to those privileged people who can count on a horse on two legs in their garage.
