McLaren 570S, The Youngest Of The Woking Family

And the ‘small’ thing is to say it in some way, since it has a powerful 3.8-liter biturbo engine; The prices of the open-air version for our market are not yet known, but the Spider is available in England

The British manufacturer McLaren has a range structured in three levels, Sports Series, Super Series and Ultimate Series. The first of them, the most accessible, is occupied by the McLaren 570S and its derivatives.

With this model, those from Woking remain in an increasingly neglected segment due to the unstoppable increase in power of the cars. If in 2010 the first ‘new McLaren’ was around 600 hp, the successor to this already comfortably exceeds 700 hp. It was necessary to maintain a lower level and the Sports Series are responsible for it.

Exterior design

Outwardly, the McLaren 570S is the latest expression of the design language that started the P1. The low, tapered front draws attention to its elaborate lines, while the LED daytime running light mimics the shape of the brand’s emblem. In addition, the central and lower part is in a contrasting color.

On the side, we must mention the small black detail that crosses the door and leads into the main air intake. It’s a design touch that not everyone likes, but it’s the 570S’s biggest hallmark. The rear is dominated again by the black color imitating the shapes of the front.

Here the drivers also refer to the McLaren logo. To accommodate a larger diffuser, the exhaust system had to be moved to the side ends in order not to obstruct the air flow in this area that is so important for generating downforce.

A curious detail of the McLaren 570S is its vertical rear window. It is the first V8 sports car to opt for such a design since the Ferrari F355 did. Other highly reputable sports cars, such as the Lamborguini Gallardo, also opted for this solution, although in the case of the Italian it carried a V10 engine.

The open-top version hardly differs from the coupe version. Aesthetically, the only differences we find are a higher rear spoiler (12 millimeters) and the two humps behind the seats. The openable roof is divided into two pieces and is made of carbon fiber. Lastly, new rims and colors have been added.

McLaren assures that the chassis of the McLaren 570S was so good that the pertinent reinforcements have not been necessary to maintain the structural rigidity once the roof is removed. This helps to limit the weight gain over the CoupĂ©, which has been 46 kg – 1,498 kg in total – due to the components of the power roof motor.

Interior design

The cabin shows a very neat and finished appearance. All surfaces are covered in leather and carbon fiber, although Alcantara fabric is available as an option. It has a fully digital and customizable instrument cluster, in true Audi Virtual Cockpit style.

This system is complemented by a second vertical screen located in the center that collects the functions of the multimedia system, air conditioning and various settings of the vehicle. It is not a car focused on daily use, so practicality is not its strong suit, as shown by its trunk of only 144 liters.

The management of the transmission is done through buttons located between the seats, as well as the wheels to select the driving modes.

Versions

The McLaren 570S range has been composed for a couple of years only by the CoupĂ© version. However, since 2017 it has been joined by the long-awaited convertible version, the McLaren 570S Spider. Between the two the differences are purely aesthetic, so they share the same engine located behind the rear seats.

We are talking about a 3.8-liter biturbo V8 engine that certifies a maximum power of 570 hp, while the maximum torque is estimated at 600 Nm. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

As standard they are equipped with adaptive suspension and carbo-ceramic brakes on both axles. These elements are almost essential to maintain stability at the top speed of 328 km / h it advertises (315 km / h in the case of the Spider if driving with the roof open). On the other hand, it reaches 100 km / h from a standstill in just 3.2 seconds.

Prices

At the moment only the prices for the Spanish market of the closed roof version are available. It is available from 218,000 euros with taxes included. A figure that increases exponentially with the extra equipment that the brand offers, as well as with the customization that McLaren MSO offers .

Hopefully pricing for the McLaren 570S Spider will be announced soon. To get an idea, in the British market it is available from 164,750 pounds.
