Best Museums On Automotive History
Automotive history is full of iconic vehicles that have marked a before and after in their time. Because of this, many of these iconic models have been preserved in history museums so that motor racing fans can visit them and learn more about them.
Automobile Museum of Malaga
In Malaga you will find what is probably the most complete and famous museum in all of Spain. Under the motto ‘the car as a work of art’, this center has almost 100 cars of various prestigious brands.
Among them, it has copies of Hispano Suiza, Bugatti, Packard Auburn, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz or Ferrari. In turn, these are divided into collections such as ‘Belle Epoque’, ‘Dorados 20’, ‘Popular cars’, ‘Dream cars’ or ‘Art Deco’.
Salamanca Automotive History Museum
In Salamanca there is the first public access automobile museum built in Spain. The bulk of what is exhibited is made up of the Gómez Planche Collection, with more than 100 classic vehicles.
This beautiful museum covers the history of the automobile from its beginnings to the present day, including racing vehicles such as Formula 1 models. It also looks to the future with the sporadic presence of prototypes.
Collecció d’Automòbils Salvador Claret
With almost 300 vehicles, including motorcycles, the Salvador Claret car collection is another of the most famous museums in Spain. It has a great variety of examples of cars from Spanish manufacturers such as Pegaso, Hispano Suiza, Ricart, Bonet or Orix, as well as motorcycles from the Bultaco, Derbi or Montesa brands.
In addition, the collection library has more than 4,000 titles on automotive history and 15,000 automotive catalogs. The facilities are located in the town of Sils, in Girona.
Museu de l’Atuomoció Roda Roda
Also called the Lleida Automobile Museum, the Roda Roda has more than thirty vehicles from different periods. The facilities house a municipal collection of 16 vehicles – including a tractor and a mail bus – and another 20 cars donated by different collectors. Some of them are members of the Club de Vehicles Històrics de Lleida.
Val Brothers Antique Car Museum
This museum of the history of the automobile is located in the town of Andújar, in Jaén, and has the car collection of two brothers, Carlos and Demetrio, settled in the town of Jaén since the 1960s.
The museum has about 60 vehicles, from some made by French firms, such as Bugatti or Peugeot, to American cars such as a Ford Model T, an Oldsmobile Curved Dash or a Chalmers 30. Most of these models are true classic gems of history the motor.
Torre de Loizaga Museum
In the province of Vizcaya, about 30 kilometers from Bilbao, is the Torre Loizaga museum, made up of the private collection of Miguel de la Vía. The main peculiarity of this museum is that it has the largest number of Rolls-Royces of all Europe.
The repertoire of this museum includes all the models manufactured by the English firm between 1910 and 1998. For this reason, these facilities are a highly recommended visit for those who consider themselves true fans of the British company.
RACE Foundation Museum
Another highly attractive museum is the one located in the Jarama Circuit itself, on the outskirts of Madrid. This is the RACE Foundation Museum, which has a select collection of vehicles.
These include a Delahaye from 1899, a Mercedes Simplex from 1904 or a Delaunay & Belleville from 1908. In addition, the foundation has a rich library with more than 4,000 volumes dedicated to the automobile.
