In less than two months we have witnessed how the entire range of the Mercedes C-Class has been completely updated. Of all of them, only one was missing, and it was the most performance version signed by AMG, the Mercedes-AMG C 63 and 63 S.

Well, the Germans end the renovation of this model by presenting it as a world premiere at the famous New York Auto Show. He does so dressed in his best clothes –version 63 S Coupé– and arrives with aesthetic and technological innovations, although in the mechanical section everything has remained as it has been until now.

Conservative aesthetics

The current Mercedes-AMG C 63 featured a refined design that perfectly combined the sportiness of an AMG product with the class of a Mercedes. Thus, the changes made in this update have been minimal, reducing to a couple of details.

The front adopts a grill with vertical slats, similar to the well-known Paramericana but with the reverse shape of it. The air intakes have also been slightly modified to improve aerodynamic flow. Obviously, the new headlights with Multibeam LED technology have been introduced .

On the side, the changes translate into new designs for the alloy wheels, available in 18 and 19 inches. Finally, the rear has a new diffuser and new exhaust outlets, with the aim of achieving a more dynamic and sporty appearance, while at the same time becoming more effective.

Renovated cabin

In the cabin of the new Mercedes-AMG C 63 we find elements already seen in the other versions of the range, as well as some new invoices. Here new inserts are available in materials that are not even an option in the rest of the range. The seats are new and the latest generation AMG steering wheel is included.

Technologically speaking, the standard equipment includes the new 10.25-inch screen for the infotainment system. For its part, the new fully digital instrumentation through a customizable 12.3-inch screen is relegated to optional equipment, being a highly recommended extra.

Same engines, new transmission

In the mechanical section we hardly find any important news. The two versions available until now, 63 and 63 S, are maintained. Both share the same V8 4.0 biturbo engine, differing in its power. The former delivers 476 hp and 650 Nm of torque, while the latter offers 510 hp and 700 Nm.

Being the same engines used so far, their performance has also remained unchanged. 4 and 3.9 seconds in the 0-100 km / h respectively and a top speed of 250 and 290 km / h for each. To tell the truth, with such a performance, who needs improvements in this regard.

The same systems that contribute to better dynamism have also been maintained. To control so much power sent to the rear axle an electronic slip differential is used on both versions. What is unique to the C 63 S are the dynamic engine mounts, responsible for optimizing the roll of the engine in curves.

The only mechanical element that we can treat as a novelty is the transmission. The brand has scrapped the previous 7-speed automatic transmission in favor of the new AMG Speedshift MCT 9G nine-speed transmission. Calibrated by AMG, it provides a much more sporty and refined behavior.

Price

The brand has not made public the prices of the new Mercedes-AMG C 63, although it is estimated that they do not vary with respect to current rates. To date, prices start at 94,175 euros for the C 63 sedan, and go up to 116,750 for the C 63 S convertible.
