Bugatti Veyron

Bugatti Veyron

At the beginning of the century, the Volkswagen Group wanted to hit the table and alert the premium brands by launching a product that demonstrated its full technological potential, although its market was that of affordable and mass-produced cars. After several prototypes under several of the group’s brands, Bugatti was the one who would end up sponsoring the new model, which would be a turning point in the industry and that today is already a classic on the rise. This is the Bugatti Veyron.

In 2005, it became the first production car to surpass the 1,000 horsepower barrier and a starting price of over one million euros.

A timeless style

There is no doubt that the Veyron design was not weighed by the years, always staying fresh, and its multiple curved surfaces dictated by aerodynamics, has left it framed as one of the best in history. As a detail, the entire body was made of carbon fiber, in which you could choose a two-color body that perfectly matched the different pieces and shapes of the design.

The engine hood, located behind the passenger compartment, stands out. Unlike in any sports car, in the Veyron there was no protection whatsoever, exposing the W16 engine , which in addition to being eye-catching, announced through emblems that it was not just any engine. Obviously, Bugatti already knew that it would not be a car that would be neglected by its owners and that even leaving the engine “in the air”, other people’s friends would not be able to access it.

W16 Quad-Turbo thruster

The most striking thing about the Bugatti Veyron was not what was seen, but what was hidden. By combining two VR8 engines, a huge W16 engine was achieved which, with the use of four turbochargers, developed the magic figure of 1,0001 horsepower and a torque of 1,250 N / m. To control such horsepower, an all-wheel drive system with a Haldex differential was used and tires developed specifically by Michelin for the Veyron.

However, brands such as Koenigsegg or Shelby began to challenge the Veyron, which marked the beginning of the development of the latest version, the Super Sport. Here the engine was powered up to the round figure of 1,200 horsepower and the torque increased to 1,500 N / m. These improvements had a major impact on top speed, which was now 431 km / h, aided by revised aerodynamics. For technical reasons, the acceleration was maintained and did not improve.

Versions

As a solution, Bugatti devised a series of special editions that were nothing more than custom units, since the technical section remained intact. In total, on the basis of the Veyron 16.4, a total of 6 special versions were made (which does not mean a single unit) with which the brand managed to sell a few more. This without counting the Super Sport and Super Sport Vitesse versions and their respective limited versions.

The production of the Veyron lasted longer than desired by Volkswagen, despite having the option of choosing the car in coupe version (300 units available until 2011) and targa (150 units available until 2015). The drop in sales was due to the fact that the wealthy who dreamed of a unit in their garage already purchased one from the beginning, so the demand began to decline.
