Infiniti Q60, A Japanese-style Coupe

If you are looking for a sports car but with a certain practicality for day to day, the first that come to mind are German models, but if you want something exclusive and that no neighbor has it, this is your car
Infiniti Q60, a Japanese coupe

The range of the brand would not be complete without a sports coupe with which to stand up to the Audi A5 coupe, BMW 4 Series coupe and company. The Infiniti Q60 is one of those cars that you rarely find on the street but that when you see it pleasantly catches your eye. So why is it not for sale?

Infiniti Q60 exterior design

It is quite similar to the car from which it comes, the Infiniti Q50, but that sporty air suits it well. It’s two inches lower than the saloon and four inches shorter, but its streamlined lines make it appear longer than it is.

To look so much like the Q50 it is surprising what it improves at first glance, the wheel arches are more marked, the grille is larger and the headlights are more stylized. The side view is that of a true coupe, with a large hood and a very smooth and gradual roof drop; a complete beauty.

The rear is the most muscular of the model, with very sharp horizontal lights and very marked rear wheel arches that increase the feeling of width of the car. Aesthetically it has nothing to envy its competitors from Mercedes, BMW or Audi.

Interior design

Inside it is practically the same car as the Q50, with its strengths and weaknesses. To start with the good part, it is a quality interior and well finished. Everything is taken care of in detail, with many padded surfaces.

The driving position is quite sporty, which forces you to go with the legs quite straight, but has enough space for two adults of any size to travel comfortably.

The negative point that worries me the most is the dual screen system on the dashboard, as it is confusing and not very intuitive. In addition, the resolution is different between them and it is noticeable at first glance; a detail little taken care of by the Japanese.

In any case , the comfort in here is not inferior to that of its rivals and is only surpassed by the Mercedes E-Class coupe in this regard. Unlike the Germans, it cannot carry extras such as the digital instrument cluster, which adds a touch of modernity to the interior of the car.

The rear seats of the Infiniti Q60, as in this type of car, are the most affected. The space to enter and exit is very small and the free height to the ceiling makes it only suitable for children or small adults.

The trunk is not something the Infiniti Q60 can be proud of either, as it boasts 342 liters, far less than the 445 liters in the 4 Series Coupe or the 465 liters in the A5 Coupe. Still, the hatchback makes it quite usable.

Engines and dynamics

The Q60 does not have diesel versions as if they have their more direct adversaries, nor with a hybrid system like some of its brand companions. This type of strategy only manages to subtract sales.

Even so, what it offers is not bad at all to get the most out of the car. It is available with two gasoline engines, one with four and one with six cylinders. The one with the least power is a 211 hp 2.0 turbo that stands out for its good performance and first-rate smooth running.

With it, it goes from 0 to 100 km / h in 7.3 seconds and reaches 235 km / h, so it has plenty of power to have a good time. In addition, consumption is very tight for a car with these characteristics and it is easy to hover around 8 l / 100 km.

Above is a 3.0 biturbo of 405 hp, with which it manages to improve the sound and the acceleration capacity in equal parts. It goes from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.0 seconds and reaches 250 km / h. A 431 hp BMW M4 is clearly faster than the Q60, but it is also almost € 30,000 more expensive.

Dynamically it is where the Japanese lapses the most, with an overly artificial steering, incapable of transmitting to the driver the information necessary to carry out a sporty driving safely. The weight is not in his favor either, and he is overtaken by the Germans as soon as the road twists.

Price and conclusion

Part of 48,400 euros, a price similar to that of a 252 hp automatic BMW 430i Series. That is, without a doubt, another explanation for its lousy sales figures. If you want to compete with more established rivals than you and offer less for the same money …

Even so, there is a detail that few people value, especially if you are considering a car with these characteristics: exclusivity. In that few win the Infiniti Q60.
