Mercedes-AMG C 43 Coupé / Cabrio 2018, Expanding The Family

Since at the beginning of March the German firm Mercedes decided to present itself at the Geneva Motor Show with the updates of its star saloon in normal and AMG format, the arrival of the three doors has been awaiting. The wait is over and with it comes the new Mercedes-AMG C 43 Coupé and Cabrio.

It is a model that hardly differs from the one sold so far,  and is presented with all the new features introduced in the renewal of the Mercedes C-Class saloon. Specifically, in this case we are talking about the changes introduced in the more accessible AMG version, changes that it inherits from the conventional Mercedes-AMG C 43.

Specific exterior

Officially, Mercedes has presented the AMG C 43 in Coupé format, although soon it will also be available with the convertible body. Among the most notable changes that we find first, stands out the new specific body kit for this version, inspired by the one already seen in the sedan body.

These changes include a renewed front end, with a more aggressive and aerodynamic bumper and the new Full LED headlights seen on the normal model. There’s also room for new side skirts, new alloy wheel designs, and an updated color palette.

The changes have also been notable in the rear, where a new functional diffuser of generous proportions and four circular tailpipes has been integrated . More unnoticed are the wheel arches, slightly widened to accommodate larger wheels.

Cabin

Looking inside, the new front seats are surprising , sportier cut and sculpted to offer greater lateral support. New dashboard materials have also been included, as well as a wave of state-of-the-art technology.

The dashboard is now digital, with a 12.3-inch screen, and the central screen of the infotainment system is larger, as seen in the normal model. As in the C 43 sedan, it includes the new circuit mode.

With this GPS-supported system, the driver receives – depending on the make – the closest information to what a personal track engineer would give: lap times, more data on the vehicle’s condition, etc. By default, the data of several relevant circuits such  as the Nürburgring are already  preconfigured .

More power for the V6

Perhaps the engine of this Mercedes pick up the most important changes. Although it still uses the same V6 3.0 biturbo engine, the new tuning carried out by AMG – electronics and new turbochargers – has contributed to increase the power to reach  390 hp. The engine torque remains at 520 Nm.

All this power is digested through the three modes offered by the AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G dual-clutch 9-speed automatic transmission . As for the powertrain, it uses the well-known 4MATIC all-wheel drive.

For more control by the driver, AMG Dynamic Select provides five driving modes –  Comfort, Sport, Sport +, Individual and Low Grip – and many more to control the running gear.

Price

At the moment, the brand has not commented on the prices of this latest version, although it is to be expected that they will remain in line with what has been seen so far. Currently, the version for sale of the Mercedes-AMG C 43 is available for just over 69,000 euros, a figure for which we get a very complete and balanced sports car.
