Aston Martin Valkyrie, Able To Look An F1 In The Face

We are facing something historic in the British brand: Aston Martin launches its first hypercar. The Aston Martin Valkyrie has been jointly developed with  Red Bull Advanced Technologies  and  AF Racing. Adrian Newey, one of the best engineers in Formula One, has  also assisted in its development.  

Together they have designed an authentic racing car, with an aesthetic and qualities more typical of a vehicle created for the 24 Hours of Le Mans than for private use.

Here the regulations of the competitions do not rule, so Adrian Newey has had a free hand to give fruit to his ideas, without adhering to the pattern set by each regulation. The result is a full-fledged racing car, but one that can be registered and enjoyed off-track.

The two obsessions of this Aston Martin Valkyrie are: aerodynamics and weight. As soon as you see it, you can realize the intentions of this car, it does not pretend to be the most beautiful or the most comfortable, but it aspires to leave any rival behind on the hypercar battlefield.

Its exterior aesthetics have been designed by the wind, since all the pieces have been specially studied to offer the least possible resistance, with a minimal body surface and a cabin of tiny dimensions.

All this effort in the wind tunnel would be meaningless if you do not achieve a contained weight, and here the brand has reached an almost obsessive level.

To the logical strategies of including a carbon fiber monocoque, which provides excellent rigidity and lightness to the whole, are added others more typical of Formula 1 than of a “street” car. For example, the vehicle badge is made of aluminum, which is 30% less thick than a human hair. No more examples are needed to understand the level of detail this Aston Martin Valkyrie has received.

An interior without distractions

Inside, minimalism is king. Do not expect to find even half of the typical things of any vehicle. Here you are, a racing wheel and the screens with the instant information of the car. Everything is covered with carbon fiber and has just enough to compete, without any comfort, except for spectacular seats designed specifically for each user.

Engine level?

To this day, Aston Martin has not given too many details on the specifications of the engine. What we do know is that it will have an atmospheric V12 of 6.5 liters of displacement. To carry out the task of tuning the engine to the height of the circumstances, Aston Martin has relied on the preparer Cosworth.

In addition, it will have electric motors to result in a hybrid system that can make the most of the car’s possibilities. We do not know the power it will deliver, but with the specific preparation it brings, it will comfortably exceed a thousand horses.

Brakes is another of the most studied sections in this automotive feat. We all know the carbon-ceramic brakes that equip the most exquisite sports cars. Well, Aston Martin has gone a step further and brings a new system, made only with carbon. This technology can be found in Formula 1.

With all this deployment, the English firm affirms that it will be able to generate a lateral force of 4.5 G, something only within the reach of the world of top-level competition. Not only that, but he dares to assure that it will be faster on the circuit than an F1 car, something that has generated many discrepancies about its veracity.

A dream for any engineer

From the mix between free creativity and talent, only fascinating results can come out, therefore, it is fortunate to be able to see what a brand and a group of engineers are capable of building. Although it is nothing more than a very expensive whim enjoyed only by a privileged few, we must thank the brands that dedicate so much impetus to the innovation and development of new technologies to take the automotive world to the maximum exponent.

Since it is the first hypercar created by Aston Martin, this model will go down in the history books of the brand, with the economic value that comes with it.

Only 150 units of this Aston Martin Valkyrie will be made at a price that we still do not know, but I do not think we will be surprised by seeing the final product.
