Audi R8 V10 Plus Performance Parts Edition
Manufacturers have found in the limited editions the goose that lays the golden eggs. They are the perfect reason to charge customers more for a car that, while different, does not change much from the base model. This is the case with the new Audi R8 V10 Plus Performance Parts Edition.
The German mid-engined sports car has been with us since 2007 and its second generation saw the light of day in 2015. During all these years, the Audi R8 has been characterized by being a friendly sports car with those who drive it, comfortable and easy to drive at high speeds. Maybe a little lacking in passion, but this is fixed.
With the variant –also limited– Audi R8 RWS, the brand offered us a more purist sports car, with less weight and a rear-wheel drive that was very well received by critics. Curiously, this model was positioned as the cheapest option in the range, so its just 1 000 units flew in a matter of days.
However, the brand still had a new version that would position itself as the top of the range, the more expensive Audi R8. This limited edition of only 44 units differentiates itself by incorporating all the extra equipment that Audi Sport offers in its Performance Parts catalog to improve performance on the track.
Optional is standard
As its name suggests, the Audi R8 V10 Plus Performance Parts Edition boasts all the components that Audi Sport offers in its catalog of options. We do not know the price of the sum of all these pieces, but it is not exactly cheap, since it works mainly with carbon fiber.
The set of parts coupled to the sporty body of the R8 leave us a set with a racing look, worthy of racing in the GT4 Championship. But not everything is aesthetic, since all the components are functional in one way or another. Whether it’s weight or aerodynamics, everything here has its function.
The entire contour of the body has been spiced up with an addition of carbon fiber that redirects the air better than before, pieces that accompany the front canards and a vertical attachment at the rear that does not manage to steal the limelight from the new diffuser, more aggressive and larger.
More unnoticed are the mirrors with a carbon shell or the sideblades in the same material. What does not go unnoticed is the fixed rear wing. With all these changes, it has been possible to increase the aerodynamic load until it generates 250 kilos at 330 km / h.
If outwardly the set wins whole visually, the cabin is no less. The carbon fiber extends into this space and gain prominence in the cams and decorative moldings, which complements the alcántara used in steering wheel and part of the seats.
However, not all changes are visible. The new set of exclusively designed wheels are made of magnesium, which reduces the unsprung mass. It also gains a new set of carbo-ceramic brake discs, as well as a coilover suspension .
Audi R8 V10 Plus Performance Parts Edition Specifications
Although many changes have been made, the mechanical section has not undergone any changes. And it was not necessary. The current Audi R8 is offered with two power levels drawn from the same block. In this case we are talking about the V10 Plus, the most vitaminized version with 610 HP of power and 560 Nm of torque.
Unlike the RWS, this one does equip the Quattro all-wheel drive, a system that marries perfectly with the seven-speed S tronic gearbox and double clutch. Unfortunately, the firm has not communicated the final weight of the car, which after the reduction suffered with the carbon components we suspect that it will be around 1,650 kilos.
