The BMW 5 Series has received a new generation in 2017 that is very close to its older brother, the 7 Series.

As usual, in this new generation  the 5 Series will be available in both a four-door saloon and a five-door family format (Touring), sharing most of the available engines, although the most powerful are exclusive to the saloon. , like the M550 and of course the extreme M5. Without a doubt, this E-segment saloon is one of the brand’s heavyweights and one of the best in its category.

Exterior design

Aesthetically, the new generation 5 Series has taken a qualitative leap, and resembles its older brother, which means that it adopts the latest style of lines imposed by it, and at the same time makes it look like a car with superior positioning. .

For this reason, the new 5 Series sports a figure similar to the model sold to date if special attention is not paid to the details, but if you stop a bit to observe it, you will see how each part of the body and interior is different with respect to to the past generation. New, larger Full LED headlights, larger and more aggressive grille, sportier bumper on both the normal version and the one equipped with the M-Sport package.

On the side, the depth reached by the tension lines stands out, as well as the incorporation of the new gill in the lower part of the front wing integrated into the set of lines that run through the body. The rear is the part most similar to its predecessor, although the new pilots provide an effect of dynamism and freshness that will come in handy so that over the years the rear part continues to look current and does not need a design revision.

Interior design

For its part, the interior is a copy of what was seen in the new 7 Series, with a new design for the center console, which, while retaining part of the DNA of recent years, now looks much more modern and compact.

Also on the dashboard there is room for the arrival of new technologies introduced in the sector, such as the fully digital dashboard or the infotainment system with gesture function, while the noble materials will be varied, giving the buyer the possibility to have a unique interior, especially if you opt for the BMW Exclusive personalization program.

Mechanics

Regarding the mechanical section, the new BMW 5 Series is a highly versatile car, with options that start from a simple four-cylinder in-line for the most mundane versions, going through six-cylinder in-line for the moderately powerful until reaching the maximum exponent of Series 5 without reaching the extreme M5, 

The xDrive all-wheel drive option of the mentioned model is not exclusive to this one, therefore, it is available in combination with a multitude of versions. The same happens with the 8-speed automatic transmission, which although in certain versions it is the only option, in most it is a variant that replaces a six-speed manual transmission. As expected, the Series 5 is available in both gasoline and diesel, with a hybrid option in the case of gasoline, which delivers more than 250hp and does not consume more than 2 liters per 100 km.
