BMW X5, The Bavarian SUV For The Whole Family

The BMW X5 is the largest SUV currently available in the range of the German firm awaiting the arrival of the next X7, larger in every way. Today, the third generation of the X5 is for sale , which was presented in 2013.

With this model, the Bavarian brand began a direct fight with the Mercedes ML / GLE and later with the Audi Q7, its main rivals, although as usual the Bavarian model is the most dynamic. On the other hand, it was the first of many in the X family of the Germans, which already has six models.

Big yes, but BMW

Aesthetically, the BMW X5 now looks more muscular than ever, having given greater prominence to the front grille. In general, the large proportions of the vehicle make it difficult to integrate the characteristic elements of the brand, but despite everything, the designers have succeeded and it still looks like a BMW.

It has new bumpers sportier look, although the brand sportsmanship makes available the BMW X5 M. On the side it presents a very well sculpted sheet metal, not letting the car look heavy, rather the opposite. At the same time, it maintains the rear window elbow detail on the C-pillar.

The rear is resolved with a very vertical tailgate, with a large glass surface and a fairly low loading edge, thus facilitating the loading of objects into the trunk. Finally, the pilots can be equipped with LED technology .

Cabin

As for the interior, the X5 has an enviable space in its category, with a heart attack habitability and a great load capacity. With the third generation came greater customization with the inclusion of new materials.

In addition, the arrival of new technological elements make life on board easier, both for the driver and for the passengers. We are talking about an infotainment system with a screen of up to 10.25 inches, an Internet connection in the car,   a color Head-Up display , and various driving aids.

Wide mechanical repertoire

In the mechanical and technical section, the BMW X5 has the possibility of equipping all types of engines, from a modest inline four cylinder for the most mundane versions to huge eight cylinders, which are available in line for the most powerful versions of the standard and V range for the X5 M.

This wide variety of engines contributes to the X5 having a wide range of options to satisfy all types of customers, with powers that slightly exceed 200 hp in the case of the 25d up to almost 450 hp.

Remember that it is a vehicle that marks 2.2 tons of weight on the scale. As usual, the top speed is electronically limited to 250 km / h. 

New for this generation, a single-wheel drive version – sDrive – is  available only in conjunction with the smaller diesel engine. In any case, to transmit power to the wheels it makes exclusive use of an 8-speed automatic transmission signed by ZF.

Prices

The range of the BMW X5 would be divided into the versions of gasoline, diesel and the plug-in hybrid variant that combines an electric motor with another gasoline. Specifically, the hybrid is available from 75,650 euros, being exempt from the MOVALT Plan discounts.

As for the gasoline range, there are only two models available, the 35i and the 50i, with prices starting at 70,300 and 99,650 euros respectively. Looking at the diesel prices, they start at € 61,150 for the 25d and reach a maximum price of € 111,100 for the M50d, an X5 prepared by M Motorsport but decaffeinated.
