Lexus CT: The Subtle Revamp Of The Japanese Hybrid

The compact of the premium brand of Toyota is presented with an interesting ‘facelift’ at the aesthetic, safety and equipment level; Without a doubt, we are facing a high-end compact that combines a sporty design, elegance, safety and efficiency.
Lexus CT: the subtle renewal of the Japanese hybrid

The new version of the Lexus hybrid incorporates modest aesthetic novelties and the same mechanics as in its previous version. The new generation of the CT continues to be one of the most successful models of the Japanese manufacturer.

As a novelty with respect to the CT of 2016, the F Sport trim version appears , with a more sporty design. However, Lexus has given its hybrid vehicle a facelift with minor cosmetic touches, both inside and out. In addition, some new features are also incorporated into its standard equipment.

Lexus CT maintains its sporty, eye-catching look

At its front, the new generation of Lexus CT has a new front grille with Spindle Grille design. This is larger than the other models in the range and is accompanied by a new front bumper.

This compact hybrid incorporates LED technology in all ‘L’ shaped headlights and daytime running lights. In addition, in the case of the F Sport trim , the design accentuates its aggressiveness throughout the entire vehicle.

The alloy wheels can be 15 or 17 inches, with a five double spoke structure that attracts considerable attention.

As for the rear, new bumper and diffuser designs are incorporated. These are available in a range of colors including Titanium , Cooper Brown, and Cyan Blue.

The novelties in the interior

The upholstery of the passenger compartment mixes fabric and leather on the seats, and uses a two-color aesthetic. This brings a new look to the interior design, although without much change from previous models.

On the other hand, the CT equipment does bring interesting news. The new generation includes the intelligent door opening system as standard.

Among its great novelties is the large central screen, with 10.3 inches, compared to the 7 inches in size of the previous version. In addition, it incorporates the Lexus Safety system , with a high-beam assistant and traffic sign recognition mode.

These safety systems are combined with an anti-collision assistant. This automatically brakes the vehicle in the event of an accident risk and also detects pedestrians in blind spots.

As latest additions, it includes cruise control and a lane-keeping assistant. With all these new developments in technology, the new Lexus CT stands out as an especially safe vehicle.

The Lexus CT maintains the mechanics of its previous version

The Japanese hybrid does not provide mechanical novelties, and equips the same hybrid propulsion system as in its previous generation. This is made up of a 1.8-liter naturally aspirated heat engine with Atkinson cycle that reaches 99 HP of power.

On the other hand, the electric one reaches up to 82 HP, which together with the combustion one declares a combined power of 136 HP. This hybrid system is associated with a CVT-type transmission that allows the vehicle to go from 0 to 100 km / h in 10.3 seconds. As for the maximum speed, the CT can reach 180 km / h.

Consumption is quite low thanks to the fuel savings achieved by its electric motor, and the approved average value is 3.6 liters per 100 km. Although it is likely that we will approach this figure in the city, it must be pointed out that the extra weight of this dual system with batteries, together with the scarce energy recovery on the road, will considerably distance us from such a low figure.

Although it is a very efficient vehicle, and a priori low maintenance cost, this new generation of the Lexus CT with its modest –although interesting– novelties  is available with prices starting at 24,900 euros. This is the cost of the cheaper ECO version.

From there there are other finishes with equipment increases. The Bussines option costs 28,700 euros, while the Executive comes to 31,600 euros and the F Sport at 34,800 euros.

As a variant of the F Sport is the version with leather, which increases the price of the standard F Sport by 4,100 euros . Finally, the top of the range model is the Lexus CT Luxury , which reaches 39,500 euros.

The advantages of the ECO label

One of the interesting advantages of the new Lexus model is the ECO label that this hybrid sports. With it , it is shown that the vehicle complies with the gas emission regulations that are being imposed in large cities.

In this way, the new CT can circulate even when traffic is restricted to reduce pollution. This advantage puts the Lexus model above many other vehicles, whose internal combustion engines exceed the allowed emission limits at certain times of restriction.

Most of the new CT’s customers come from other brands, and they do it to stay. The Japanese manufacturer Lexus thus launches a model with a great future to compete with other hybrid vehicles.
