Peugeot 5008

It surprises many that this car, with its rough bearing and soft interior, is built on the EMP2 platform, the same base that serves as a support for touring models such as the Peugeot 308 or the Citroën C4 Picasso.

The leaders of the French company have decided to bet on crossovers and start moving from minivans. The first to switch to the SUV segment was the 3008. Then the Peugeot 5008 followed.

 Radical change

The first generation 5008 hit the market in 2009. It was the fourth lion company car to adopt distinctive four-digit numbers, after 1007, 4007 and 3008.

By the end of the first decade of the 21st century, the SUV market was uncharted territory. Peugeot competed strongly among the five-seater minivans, designed for motorway tours without disturbing urban traffic.

But in the last five years, the public began to feel strongly attracted by models that combine possibilities on asphalt and gravel. Without it being a tough and classic off-road.

This segment has grown to such an extent that in March 2017 the Peugeot 3008 GT became the first Suv to be recognized as Car of the Year in Europe.

It is precisely this wave on which the Peugeot Suv 5008 surfs. Today only the name remains of the first generation. This is not a renovation. It is practically a new car.

 Exterior design

Externally , there are not many differences between the Peugeot 5008 Suv and its (almost) twin brother, the 3008. The first striking similarity is the sculpted grille, fitted with chrome fins and topped with the company’s imposing lion emblem in the middle.

The front bumper offers wide air intakes that complete the look of ferocity that the car conveys at first glance.

In the rear, a black stripe that crosses the middle zone (right in the middle of the tailgate, under the glass), serves as a seat for the pilots in the shape of triple claws.

All this panorama is complemented by two chrome exhausts placed at each end of the bumper. This detail has managed to annoy more than one user, since it is a purely decorative element that does not fulfill any real function within the operation of the car.

Longer, with more space

Compared to the 3008, it has an extra 20 centimeters (its length is 4.64 meters). This additional space is enough to (optionally and depending on the finish) accommodate up to 7 passengers.

Similarly, the luggage space is 780 liters (with the third row of seats folded down, in the 7-seater models). It can be expanded to 1060 liters if the intermediate seats are folded back. All this in a cabin equipped with luxury and high details, worthy of touring cars that do not neglect elegance and comfort for their crew.

Interior design: finishes and technology

The finishes available for this crossover are the traditional ones of the French company: Active, Allure, GT line and GT. Within its technological section, it offers users and passengers elements such as:

  • Central digital instrument panel, through a 12.3 ”screen.
  • 8 multimedia screen in the center console . Among other information and entertainment possibilities, it has a Mirror Screen function. Very useful to replicate the operation of the Smartphone . It also allows the TomTom 3D navigator to be displayed, with real-time traffic updates.
  • Driver’s station with amplified I-Cockpit technology. Includes the option to configure two environments. And this through the manipulation of elements such as interior light or ambient sound.

Pack Safety Plus, which consists of systems such as: fatigue alert or involuntary lane change. Also includes Blind Spot Monitoring and Front and Rear Curtain Airbags.

 Motorization and mechanics

There are six engine options offered by the Peugeot Suv 5008.

In gasoline:

  • 2 liters, PureTech, with a power of 130 Horsepower.
  • 6 liters, THP, with a power of 165 Horsepower.

 In diesel:

  • 6 BlueHDi, with powers of 100 or 120 Horsepower.
  • 0 Blue HDi, with powers of 150 or 180 Horsepower.

Depending on the finish and the type of engine, the machines can be combined with a 6-speed manual gearbox, or with the EAT8 piloted automatic model.

Price

The crossover minivan of the gala brand starts from an inexpensive € 25,400, which places it squarely among the most competitive on the market.
