Range Rover Evoque, Fashion Rules

The Evoque achieves what all SUVs try to achieve, originality and at the same time not losing the essence of the brand.
Range Rover Evoque, fashion rules

In 2012 Land Rover launched the Range Rover Evoque, a compact SUV, where until then the English brand had no representative. We do not know if they were aware of the point they were going to score, but it has been a highly desired vehicle since its inception. Its sales figures leave no doubt about its success.

With 4.37 meters in length, our protagonist had the difficult task of carving out a niche in a segment with a lot of competition. It is true that today premium SUVs sell themselves, but snatching sales from the Audi Q3, BMW X1 or the Mercedes GLA was not an easy task. However, he succeeded. Currently, new very attractive competitors such as the new Jaguar E-Pace or the Volvo XC40 have emerged, which are going to add even more fuel to the fire.

Although it is also available with three doors and a convertible version, we are going to focus on the one most demanded by the public: the five-door version.

Design

Its design is the main culprit for the success of this Range Rover Evoque. It does not leave anyone indifferent, it is an imposing, attractive car with a lot of class.

The front stands out for a very high nose, with the hood almost horizontal and quite square in shape. If we add to this a vehicle width of no less than 1.96 meters, this model has a very robust presence. In the last restyling , Land Rover added considerably larger air intakes. Spotlights with LED technology stand out, located in a remarkably high position.

At the rear is where the model has undergone the least changes in its updates. With small format pilots that are joined by a shiny black stripe. The rear window is very small, which makes it difficult to see to the rear. Viewed from the rear, the width of the track is striking, unusual for cars of its size.

Inside

Despite its length, the interior is very well resolved. In some heights it is below its rivals, but it wins more than in others.

  • Front seats : it has a very Land Rover style, everything in its interior exudes robustness. The dashboard is wide and sloping, with a touchscreen set slightly low. The buttons are designed to be handled with gloves, as is the case with the rest of the range, that is why they are larger than usual. The seats are comfortable and the driving position is very high. The central armrest can be enjoyed by the two front passengers, as it is very wide.

  • Rear seats : it is one point lower than the Audi Q3 and BMW X1 in terms of legroom, but its width is much higher, making it the best option among them for those who use the five seats regularly. It has ventilation outlets and the finishes in this part are as good as in the front seats, with padded plastics that are pleasant to the touch.
  • Trunk : with 575 liters, it is positioned above the average, surpassing its German competitors. The new Jaguar E-Pace has 577 liters, at the level of the Evoque.

Dynamic

Wide roads are his favorite place, with a very comfortable suspension that gets really good insulation from the outside. On curvy roads, the suspension does its best to hold the car’s roughly 1,600kg. If we raise the pace, they will appear rocking typical of a car of its height and weight.

It is in the field where this Range Rover Evoque distances itself from its rivals. It has electronic systems such as the aid for descending slopes or a speed programmer for the field (it makes the driver only worry about the direction in rough terrain). Elements that distance you from your alternatives in the market.

Its angles of attack and departure are good for an SUV. Without a doubt, it is the best alternative for those who are looking for a car of this type and regularly drive off asphalt.

Motor

It has a very successful engine range that is wide enough to satisfy most potential buyers.

  • Gasoline : it has a single two-liter block, with 240 or 290 HP of power and with a consumption of 7.3 and 7.6 liters per 100 km respectively. It is a somewhat high consumption if we compare it to those achieved by its competitors with similar engines. They are only available with four-wheel drive.
  • Diesel : Diesel takes most of the sales of this Range Rover Evoque. It also comes with a two-liter engine, but this time with three power levels: 150, 180 and 240 hp. Only the 150 hp is available with two-wheel drive, the rest only four. The most recommended is the 180 hp, since the 150 is a bit short for the weight of the car (it goes from 0 to 100 km / h in 11.2 seconds). The 240 hp version is intended for those looking for something more performance (it takes 7.3 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km / h).

Range Rover Evoque prices

It starts from € 35,100  in the Pure version of 150 hp 4 × 2 diesel to € 72,800 in the 240 hp 4 × 4 automatic. They are very different prices, and a bit high if we compare them with their alternatives and it does not compensate for it even with better consumption, benefits or equipment.

conclusion

If you like its design, it will be difficult not to choose it, since the Evoque is different from the others. If you are also going to use it off the asphalt or transport five people often, do not think about it, it is a great option. But if what you are looking for is efficiency in the engines, low consumption, good behavior on mountain roads or agility in the city, this is not your car.
