Luxury, exclusivity, power. These are some of the adjectives that have always accompanied the centennial British carmaker, now owned by BMW. Their cars are the best of the best, but there are no limits and there is always something more to offer. Proof of this is the Rolls-Royce Black Badge line.

As if all that a standard model with the Spirit of Ecstasy emblem on the front was not enough , under these special editions the brand has achieved what seemed impossible . Make what was already gigantic even bigger.

Ghost, Wraith, and Dawn: The Darkened Souls

These are the three models marketed under the Rolls-Royce Black Badge umbrella. A saloon, a coupe and a convertible. Each one of them, the most luxurious of its segments.

In all three cases, the dark tonality that all its lines have acquired stands out at first glance. Not only the bodywork, but also the double R logo, as well as the Flying Lady;  According to her creators, in this new trend she looks like a black vampire.

Virtually all chrome surfaces were darkened, resulting in an almost completely black volume. Except for the rims, everything appears to be dark: the upper edges of the doors (which are still suicide-opening), the front grille, and the lighting fixtures.

From Rolls-Royce they remain proud, highlighting the craftsmanship that allows us to obtain an unparalleled result. For each of the Black Badges to show off the imposing black of their bodywork, 22 coats of paint and lacquer are applied. Each of them individually hand polished

Rolls-Royce Black Badge: also dark inside

The pastel shades that usually adorn Rolls-Royce cabins have been left aside. Dark combinations, with blue or purple doubled with black, dominate the interior design of this series.

How could it be otherwise, this is just the beginning. The Black Badge range takes the Bespoke program to a new level ; With this, the possibilities for internal customization, making use of luxury aerospace materials, are practically unlimited.

Mechanics

The basic versions of each of these three models are already quite powerful. The Rolls-Royce Black Badge are even more so. As an example, the Ghost engine, the traditional 6.6 12V gasoline block, adds an additional 40 horsepower to reach 603 hp.

With this top speed, the improved edition of this Rolls-Royce breaks its own record to establish itself as the most powerful saloon on the market. Likewise, the torque has increased by 60 Nm, rising to 840 and the eight-speed automatic transmission provides much faster responses.

More powerful machines also lead to improved brake systems. The three Black Badges feature larger diameter, smoother and more efficient front discs. Similarly, improvements in steering and suspension significantly reduce the jumps and vibrations perceived by passengers on board.

Price

Those who have a Rolls-Royce on their list of goods, do not worry too much about its price . The inquiry into the market value of these cars is the first sign that a person does not qualify to purchase one of them.

In any case, none of these three models, in their most discreet versions, is below € 300,000. A luxury not suitable for most budgets.

Younger, but a Rolls-Royce after all

To this day, no one seems to argue about it . There are no cars more luxurious than those that carry the Ecstasy of Freedom in front. Although the Rolls-Royce Black Badge have a more sporty and youthful air, the brand does not renounce one iota to its philosophy of life.

Furthermore, it is not a strategy to compete within a new segment . The target remains the same: the users with the highest purchasing power, the royalty and the aristocracy.

It gives the impression that these new models are rather an attempt to become strong within a sub-group: that of the heirs. A new generation that ultimately, sooner or later will sign all the checks.
