The 7 Best-selling Hybrid Cars In Spain

The list of best-selling hybrid cars in Spain is still led by Japanese brands. However, there are two Japanese houses that have gained ground in the sector: Hyundai, with a unit of three mechanical configurations, and Kia,  with a  crossover that reaches 146 CV of power with an electric motor.

Despite the boom experienced by electric vehicles in recent times, 100% electric mobility has not been fully positioned.

Consumers continue to prefer conventional hybrid cars (HEVs), which combine a gasoline engine with an electric back-up. They have the Start & stop, but include batteries that are self-recharging.

Toyota remains the market leader

Toyota maintains the lead ; in fact, it occupies the first four positions in the ranking of best-selling hybrid cars, with 39,244 units. Its technology, functionality and market positioning have earned it followers. In fifth, sixth and seventh place are Kia, Lexus and Hyundai.

The 54,900 registered vehicles represent an increase in sales of 70%. The licenses granted by the purchase of one of these units, in cities such as Madrid, have influenced the increase. Among them, exemption from certain taxes, free parking in some areas, permission to use the Bus-Vao lane and more.

What have been the best-selling hybrid cars in Spain?

The hybrid car market continues to grow, but it is Toyota that sets the standard. In 2017 their models were the most sought after on Spanish soil:

Toyota Auris Hybrid (12,411 units)

The model on our cover is available in a five-door and station wagon body. It has a naturally aspirated 1.8 gasoline engine, LEd headlights, electric drive and Nimh batteries.

Consumption is 3.6 l / 100 km, and reaches a power of 136 hp. Its autonomy exceeds 1,400 kilometers, 10.9 seconds is the time it takes to go from 0 to 100 km / h. It can cost 22,000 euros.

Toyota C-HR (10 596 units)

The power is 122 hp and its price is around 25,000 euros. Active, Advance and Dymanic Plus are its three trim levels. This 2018 will come with a more sporty design and coupe body. In addition, it will be equipped with a rear view camera, multimedia touch screen and 17-inch alloy wheels.

Toyota Yaris Hybrid (8,208 units)

It is one of the cheapest options, after the Toyota Aygo. Allows you to select between gasoline, gasoline / electric and diesel. Its bodywork is 5 doors and automatic transmission, and consumption is 3.6 l / 100 km. Such has been its acceptance that 50% of Toyota’s sales in Europe correspond to this model.

Toyota Rav4 Hybrid (8,029 units)

The atmospheric engine is 2.5, and it has another electric one with NiMh batteries. One of the points that it has in its favor is its adaptation to front-wheel drive or 4 × 4 all-wheel drive. Consumption is located at 5 l / 100 km and power at 197 hp.

Its design is modern and attractive, while still offering good levels of safety and comfort, smooth handling, cargo space and efficiency. In addition, it is silent and has a parking camera.

Kia Niro (4 516 units)

One of the attributes of this Kia model is the combination of crossover design with hybrid mechanics, which can be plug-in in another of its versions (Plug-in Hybrid). The change is of double clutch (six speeds), the consumption of 3.8 l / 100 km and the power of 141 CV; its length is 4.35 meters.

The equipment consists of a hill start assistant, Start / Stop, LED daytime running lights, speed control limiter, Bluetooth and bi-zone climate control, among others. It can cost about 25,400 euros.

Lexus NX 300h (2 884 units)

With a very luxurious line and a hybrid mechanics of 197 CV, this Lexus has conquered the drivers. Its double arrowhead grille with elegant chrome accents and sporty-looking LED headlights give it an original look.

As for the internal finish, it is somewhat sober, but it has an extra comfort compared to the competition; a detail to highlight is its 555-liter boot, with electric gate.

Hyundai IONIQ  (2 634 units)

In 2017 it was in seventh place, but this year it is expected to rebound. There are versions with electrical, hybrid and hybrid mechanics to plug in. Hybrid units have an electric motor and another with 1.6 gasoline.

The power is 181 hp, the autonomy of 50 kilometers and the consumption of 3.4 l / 100 km and whoever wants it can get it for about 24,000 euros.
