Toyota Yaris 2017, The King Of The City

The new generation Toyota Yaris is already on sale. This new version brings important news, but maintains the exclusivity that offers a hybrid version in its catalog, something that almost none of its competitors have. As always, Toyota marks distances in this regard.

Toyota Yaris design

The most striking novelty is discovered by looking at the rear of the car. It launches new large format pilots, placed in a horizontal position, which gives it a wider appearance.

For its part, at the front it follows the market trend: making bumpers with a sporty appearance, even in the basic versions.

Inside we find modifications in the air vents, steering wheel, instrument panel, upholstery and available colors. All designed to give a touch of modernity to the cabin, but without a drastic change in a dashboard that already enjoyed very good ergonomics.

The center screen is still a bit out of the driver’s view ; Models like the Peugeot 208 or Mazda 2 provide better solutions.

Habitability

In this field the Toyota Yaris has not undergone changes and maintains the dimensions of the model it precedes. Let’s see it in parts:

• Front seats : when we sit in the driver’s position for the first time, it gives us the feeling of being in a car that is larger than it really is. A wide glass window together with a very inclined glass give a feeling of space and light to this small utility. You feel  that everything is in its place and it is very easy to adapt to it.

The main screen, although placed somewhat far away, is easy to use. Intuitive and fast, something very necessary to avoid distractions behind the wheel.

All the air conditioning controls are very well located and have physical buttons, something that is a success, since other models integrate it into the main screen, which makes it difficult to operate it on the go.

In addition, we can choose part of the dashboard in the same body color, which guarantees a more customizable interior.

• Rear seats : it is in the average of the B segment, vehicles such as the Hyundai i20 are better resolved in this regard, but it is easily defended to accommodate two adults or two child seats (it has isofix anchors). The legroom is sufficient and the headroom outstanding, but the width is just enough to accommodate three adults.
• Trunk : with 286 liters, it is not a very large trunk, but with very usable shapes. It stands out in width, which allows us to insert a child’s car in a completely transversal way, without having to put it across, which is a point in its favor in a car of its dimensions.

Vehicles like the new Seat Ibiza or the Hyundai i20 are much more advisable if we need a superior cargo space, since we will hardly introduce the luggage of four people in this Toyota Yaris.

Engines

The newcomer to the range of engines of this Toyota Yaris 2017 is a 1.5 liters and 111 hp, a block that gives very little oomph for the declared power. It equals records of competitors with 20 less CV, it is lazy and in long gears you will need to resort to the change more than desired.

In return, the driving pleasure, refinement and low consumption make it a great option for those who are not looking for a high-performance car but are looking for maximum savings and comfort.

On the other hand, the Japanese model has a new sports version, called 1.8 Dual VVT-iE with 212 hp and the acronym GRMN. For € 29,900 we can enjoy a small sports car, which accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in no less than 6.3 seconds and achieves a maximum speed of 230 km / h, a toy for sports driving.

The rest of the range is made up of a basic 1.0 VVT with 70 hp. An advisable option for mostly urban use and of course, the star of this model, the Toyota Yaris Hybrid, called 1.5 VVT-i Hybrid 100H and that develops 101 hp with a consumption of only 3.3 liters per 100 kilometers and change automatic.

Helpful and competitive

With the new Toyota Yaris 2017, the Japanese brand tries to snatch sales from European models, which are the ones that take the most part of the cake. Qualities are not lacking, and it has something that no utility on our continent can offer: a hybrid version that helps fight against the noise and stress of big cities with its enviable silence of the march.
